VE = 1 − (Attack Rate Vaccinated / Attack Rate Placebo) × 100%. VE of 95% means 95% fewer cases in the vaccinated group. ARR = absolute risk reduction. NNV = number needed to vaccinate to prevent one case = 1/ARR. VE is measured in controlled trials; real-world effectiveness may differ.
