Net carbs = Total carbs − Fiber − (Sugar alcohols × 0.5). Fiber is indigestible and does not raise blood sugar. Sugar alcohols (erythritol, xylitol, sorbitol) have variable absorption – a 50% deduction is commonly used except for erythritol which has near-zero impact. Net carbs are key for keto and low-carb diets.
