Estimate MAP from PIP, PEEP, I-time, and respiratory rate.
MAP ≈ (PIP × Ti + PEEP × Te) / Ttotal. MAP is a key determinant of oxygenation in mechanical ventilation. Higher MAP improves oxygenation but increases risk of barotrauma and hemodynamic compromise. Target the lowest MAP that achieves acceptable oxygenation. MAP directly correlates with alveolar recruitment.
