Ideal body weight (IBW) is used in clinical settings for drug dosing, ventilator settings, and nutritional assessment. The Devine formula (1974) is the most widely used. All formulas use height in inches above 5 feet and differ in their base weight and per-inch increment. Results are approximations and may not suit every body type.
