Essential cooking conversions: 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons = 15 mL. 1 cup = 16 tablespoons = 48 teaspoons = 236.6 mL ≈ 8 fluid ounces. 1 pint = 2 cups. 1 quart = 4 cups. 1 gallon = 16 cups. Note: US and Imperial cups differ — US cup = 236.6 mL, Imperial cup = 284 mL, Australian cup = 250 mL. Most international recipes use metric (mL and grams), which is more precise. A "pinch" is roughly ⅛ teaspoon, a "dash" is ⅛ teaspoon for dry or a few drops for liquid, and a "smidgen" is 1/32 teaspoon. When halving recipes, ½ of ⅓ cup = 2 tbsp + 2 tsp, and ½ of ¾ cup = 6 tbsp — non-obvious conversions that trip people up.
