Cake Serving Guide

Industry-standard cake servings: a "party" slice is 1×2 inches (generous), a "wedding" slice is 1×1.5 inches (smaller, as there are usually other desserts). A 10-inch round, 2-layer cake yields about 28 party servings or 38 wedding servings. Common round cake servings (2-layer, party-size): 6-inch: 12, 8-inch: 20, 10-inch: 28, 12-inch: 40, 14-inch: 63. For tiered wedding cakes, each tier is calculated separately. Sheet cakes are most efficient: a full sheet (18×24) gives 96 servings, half sheet (12×18) gives 54. Always order 10% more than your guest count — some people take seconds, and it's better to have leftovers.
