Rabbit Pregnancy

Rabbits have one of the shortest gestation periods among domestic animals — approximately 31 days (range 28-35). Does are induced ovulators and can conceive immediately after kindling (birth). Average litter: 4-12 kits depending on breed. Place a nest box in the cage on day 28 — the doe will pull fur to line it. Kits are born blind, deaf, and hairless; they open their eyes at 10-12 days and can be weaned at 6-8 weeks. Signs of pregnancy: nesting behavior, fur pulling, aggression, and palpable grape-sized embryos at day 10-14. False pregnancies are common — does show nesting behavior but no kits are born after 16-18 days.
