Minimum: 4× body length long, 2× wide, tall enough to stand on hind legs.
Rabbits need much more space than traditionally provided. Minimum: 4× body length (long) × 2× body length (wide) = at least 8 sq ft for a medium rabbit, plus daily exercise time in a larger area (24+ sq ft). The RSPCA recommends a minimum of 12 sq ft enclosure plus 32 sq ft exercise area. Height must allow standing on hind legs without ears touching the top. Wire-bottom cages cause sore hocks — provide a solid resting area or use solid flooring with bedding. Indoor housing is safer and allows better socialization. Rabbits are social — pairs do best (spayed/neutered). Provide hay, hiding spots, and chew toys.
