Planting Flower Bulbs

Proper bulb spacing ensures beautiful displays and healthy growth. General rule: space bulbs 2-3 times their diameter apart. Plant at a depth of 2-3 times the bulb height. Common spacings: crocus 3-4", tulips/daffodils 4-6", hyacinths 6-8", lilies 8-12". For naturalized (informal) plantings, scatter bulbs and plant where they land for a natural look — add 20% more bulbs. For formal beds, use grid patterns. Plant in fall (6 weeks before hard frost) for spring blooms. Pointy end up, flat/root end down. Water well after planting. Larger groupings (clusters of 10-25 same-type bulbs) create more visual impact than single rows.
